Stage plays

(2000–2008)

I had six plays produced between 2000 and 2008 at Bristol venues, one of which transferred to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Touchy Feely, Have-a-Go Hero, Bacon Sandwich, and Christmas with Johnny and Dee (debuted as half of the Acid Drops double-bill) formed my creative writing portfolio for my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at Cardiff University. I write creative nonfiction now rather than scripts, and the journal I kept during the 2006 production of Salt'n'Sauce was my first venture into blogging.

Four performers on a dark stage. Two sit in armchairs either side of a round table holding a champagne bucket, filled flutes and a golden gun; behind them a third hurries towards a fourth, who is flinging Tarot cards into the air

Bond Girls

Massey's new script appears as quick, witty and smooth as any Fleming film, with the requisite dose of soluble cyanide and champagne. Full permission to shake and stir the genre granted!

Two men close together on a sofa against a grey painted backdrop, one in a T-shirt holding a drinks can and the other bare-chested with an arm draped around his shoulders, each looking at the other

Salt'n'Sauce

As delicious as a surreptitious binge on chips with a fizzy drink followed by chocolate […] bursting with witty quips and brave self-mockery.

Acid Drops

A double-bill debuting Christmas with Johnny and Dee with a new production of Have-a-Go Hero.

Four performers outside a bar with drinks chalked on the window, holding orange cups and saucers among metal café chairs; the woman seated at the front wears a gold tinsel wig

Bacon Sandwich

…an acerbic piss-take of — among other things — political correctness, superstition and laddish sexual boasting.

A woman in a blue dressing gown thrusts a baseball bat under the chin of a man in a red dressing gown, sprawled backwards with his wrists tied, while a third performer grins in the background

Have-a-Go Hero

…plenty of sick, and at times moving, humour knocks you off your feet when you least expect it.

Touchy Feely

A deliciously sarky comedy about a blind student plagued by patronising ultra-PC types…
